Downtown Los Angeles

One of our favorite local day trips is to take the train into Union Station, and then grab the metro/subway to head out to one of the DTLA neighborhoods. A quick trip along the redline (or purple line) brings you to the Grand Central Market area, the historic Los Angeles marketplace which originally opened in 1917.

From the Grand Central Market area it’s a quick walk to Angels Flight, The Last Bookstore, the Bradbury Building, and some amazing rooftop bars, like the one at The Ace Hotel.

One of my favorite parts of our day trips is the return trip home (we shall see if that continues now that Traxx has closed). In the late afternoon the sun comes through the giant west facing windows at the entrance of station creating fabulous light. During this specific trip the information booth was manned and we sat down with a few drinks and watched this amazing older gentleman man the booth. Could have spent hours…but alas Metro doesn’t run a lot of trains on the weekend!

(Photos from trip in 2016…yes…yes…I’m a little behind)
